Modern is a family-owned, dealer-first software platform built around the real challenges service departments face every single day.
Founded in 2013 by a dealer who saw a clear gap in how service departments communicated with their customers, the Modern platform took off quickly, earning the attention of Caterpillar, who acquired the business in 2021. In 2024, Modern was reorganized under HET INC. ownership, returning the company to its dealer-first roots to serve dealerships across North America with the same passion that built the software in the first place.
Modern exists to give heavy equipment dealerships the communication tools needed to grow service revenue, protect margins, and build the kind of customer relationships that keep dealerships profitable for generations. Every feature inside the platform is built with input from the dealers using it every day, which is why so many of our customers stay with us year after year. Our mission is simple: keep your service department running cleaner, your customers more informed, and your dealership stronger than the day before.
Modern is family-owned and proudly independent. Today the platform supports 300+ heavy equipment dealerships across the mainland USA and Canada, and stays actively engaged with AED, MHEDA, NAVDA, FarmEquipment, and Texada.

Before leading MODERN, he was a key player in building and scaling another successful software company serving the construction industry. Today, he applies that same operator mindset to MODERN — an independent service communication platform helping heavy equipment dealers drive faster approvals, better customer experiences, and stronger service revenue.

Before leading growth at MODERN, he built his career working inside the trenches of dealerships improving performance through technology, customer relationships and operational excellence. Today, Ryan is focused on expanding MODERN\'s footprint across North America while working directly with dealers through hands-on, in-person training, helping their teams drive faster approvals, deliver better customer experiences, and maximize service performance.
